A Spooky Halloween in Barneyville

Halloween conflicted with Prop 8 work this year, so we did a lot of costume borrowing. We borrowed a beautiful ballerina costume from a friend (thanks Shonda!) and the instant Lucy put it on she became a floating, twirling personage of glitter and sparkles. I caught her a few times staring at herself in the mirror, just flitting from right to left. And then the candy comes. She popped See's chocolate pumpkin balls like they were going out of style! She must have my weakness for fine chocolate (and Nellie feeds that weakness!). Poor undernourished and overtired girl wanted nothing more than a bed by the end of the night.

Sam, our Jedi warrior, thought he was one bad dude. He wanted to be a scary Jedi, though, so we (in a pinch) borrowed Grandma Nellie's eye shadow and he instantly went to the dark side.
Good guy
Bad guy (with a sweet smile!)
Ben really got the shaft. I had all these great ideas--the Chik-Fil-A cow, a sumo wrestler, a Holy Cow (a cow with wings and a halo--I guess I was on a cow kick), but alas they never blossomed into anything besides ideas. I like to take advantage of the few years I get to choose their costumes, but maybe next year. So Ben was a samurai just like Sam was at that age.

Happy Birthday Bonnie the Great!

My Grandma Bonnie just celebrated her 70th birthday. I missed the party of the century up in Park City--they even set up fireworks downtown just for the occasion! It also happened to be the 4th of July. But Grandma--we were thinking of you and really wished we could have been there! I love you and have such wonderful memories: swimming at your house and pretending to be mermaids, shopping (of course), sinking into your comfy couch with a carton of bon bons close at hand...you taught us to be happy with whatever life dealt us and to show love to everyone. I miss you and wish we lived closer. I love you the MOST! Happy Birthday!

Here's a little clip of Lucy singing you a birthday song. I didn't think she could handle "Great Grandma Bonnie" so we shortened it.

In-N-Out

When Grandma Kristi came to visit when Ben was born, Lucy did a lot of this. And we wonder why Grandma is so popular? We all know how hard it is to stop sucking down a delicious In-N-Out chocolate milk shake. I think it might be even harder for a two-year-old to stop. I think she might have finished the thing in one continuous slurp.
